Amazon.ca is finally selling the Amazon Echo with its' famed Alexa voice control assistant here in Canada.

The Echo has caused quite a stir in the U.S. since its' release in 2015, eclipsing all sales expectations and shifting the way people interact with their home electronics. It's finally possible to talk to your audio system, lighting system, home automation, and more. A pretty incredible twist of fate for a product that was originally only intended to give you an easy way to shop on Amazon.

Intended as a Do-It-Yourself product, installation is fairly straightforward, but can prove challenging with older WiFi equipment or spotty WiFi coverage.

Setting up the Echo's capabilities is as easy as downloading the app on your smartphone or tablet, then selecting the features (Amazon calls them skills) that are relevant to your home electronics and lifestyle. Once completed, you can simply speak your commands to the Echo, using the default wake word "Alexa", and the always-at-the-ready listening circuit will respond to your requests. Dim the lights and start the music by voice command, adjust the thermostat, perhaps efficiently shut down your home for the night. All by voice, without touching a thing. But that's just the beginning. You can set cooking timers, ask for weather forecasts, discover new recipes, order pizza (or an Uber), find out every album Neil Young ever released, and pretty much anything else you might do on the web- without ever needing to type anything into a device. The experience is fluid, almost conversational. And incredibly useful.

Even better, Alexa is built into the new SONOS One speaker. One new device, two incredible technologies.
